A Former Senior Special Assistant to an Ogun State governor, Hon Bayo Orebiyi, has emerged as the consensus candidate for the Yewa South State Constituency seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly, ahead of the forthcoming party primaries.
The emergence of Orebiyi followed a series of consultations and deliberations among key stakeholders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yewa South Local Government Area, who unanimously adopted him as the preferred candidate to fly the party’s flag.
Party leaders described the consensus arrangement as a demonstration of unity, cohesion, and strategic alignment aimed at ensuring electoral victory in the constituency during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the development, a leading leader, Hon Mufutau Ajibola, said the decision to adopt Orebiyi was based on his track record of service, loyalty to the party, and deep understanding of grassroots politics.
“Orebiyi has demonstrated capacity and commitment over the years. His experience in governance and close working relationship with party leaders make him a suitable candidate to represent Yewa South in the State Assembly,” Hon Ajibola said.
In their own remarks, the Ogun State Special Adviser Government House, Hon Babatunde Olaotan (HBO), Chief Mrs Iyabo Apampa and former Reps Member, Hon Kola Lawal, noted that the consensus move was in line with the party’s internal mechanisms for conflict resolution and strengthening democratic ideals within its fold.
They expressed confidence that Orebiyi’s candidacy would galvanise support across wards and position the party for a resounding victory at the polls.
In his acceptance remarks, Orebiyi expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify their trust through effective and people-oriented representation.
“I am deeply honoured by this consensus decision. It is a call to greater service, and I assure our leaders and the good people of Yewa South that I will not disappoint. Together, we will work towards sustainable development and improved welfare for our people,” he said.
He further called on other aspirants and party members to close ranks and work collectively for the success of the APC in the constituency and across the state.
The consensus arrangement is expected to ease tensions ahead of the primaries and strengthen the party’s chances as preparations intensify for the next general elections.
