Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions has intervened in the land dispute involving Helici Bio Trade Limited, the Adekerunmi Adesada Family of Igbooye and the Orijeru of Igbooye, Oba Abdulrasaq Akanni Musa, in respect of petition alleging distruption/interference in the process of the company's possession and development activities on a parcel of land at Olowokojebi, Igbooye in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the State.
The members of the Committee led by Hon. Oluseun Adesanya, had an an interface with all parties to the petition at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, involving the representatives of Helici Bio Trade Limited, the host community and the traditional leaders on the issues surrounding the disputed land.
Arising from the interface, the Committee established that the land in question formed part of government-acquired land and consequently recommended that Helici Bio Trade Limited should continue with its ratification process already commenced with the State Government to regularise its interest in the property.
The Committee also directed the law firm of Aluko and Oyebode, solicitors to Helici Bio Trade Limited, to tender an apology to the Orijeru of Igbooye over the use of words considered derogatory in portions of the petition submitted to the Assembly.
The House Committee further advised Helici Bio Trade Limited to engage the monarch and other stakeholders in the community with a view to resolving all grievances amicably, noting that "no investor stands to benefit from operating in an atmosphere of conflict with the host community".
The Committee also directed the monarch and members of the host community to avoid any act that could hinder the company's ongoing development activities, stressing the need for mutual cooperation and understanding in the interest of peace and development.
The House Committee therefore recommended that the land dispute case currently before a court in Ijebu-Ode involving traditional land-owners/ families laying claim to the area should be pursued to its logical conclusion to enable the State Government determine the rightful beneficiaries for payment of compensation on the acquisition.
The Committee thereafter urged Helici Bio Trade Limited and the host community to embrace dialogue, maintain peaceful coexistence and work together towards attracting development and investment opportunities that would further promote the socio-economic development of the area.
