Tokunbo Talabi at 64: A Life of Purpose Beyond Titles

June 16th 2026, Mr. Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi, a fellow of the National Insitute of Credit Administration [FICA] will marks his 64th birthday — a milestone that feels less like a number and more like a testament to a life dedicated to growth, service, and transformation.

Talabi’s story doesn’t read like the typical narrative of a civil servant; it’s richer, textured with private sector poise and public sector purpose.

Born in 1962, Talabi’s early trajectory was shaped by rigorous academic and professional preparation. After earning a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Lagos in 1987, he broadened his horizon through professional training at the Citibank School of Banking in New York — an early signal of a career that would bridge global competence with local impact.

Before entering public administration, Talabi built a formidable reputation in Nigeria’s private sector. He was among the pioneer staff at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), a period when the institution was carving out its legacy as one of Africa’s most respected financial outfits. His roles there weren’t just jobs — they were incubators of leadership, strategic thinking, and institutional confidence.

But his ambitions didn’t stop in banking. Talabi translated his financial and business acumen into entrepreneurship as Managing Director and CEO of Superflux International Limited, a firm known for security printing and positioning itself at the intersection of trust, technology, and delivery. It was here that he sharpened his executive instincts — holding together teams, managing complex operations, and fortifying a business identity in a competitive landscape.

In June 2019, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun appointed Talabi as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) — a pivotal role that placed him at the fulcrum of governance, administration, and policy coordination. In Nigeria’s state governance structure, the SSG is more than an administrator; he is the rhythm maker of government operations, aligning the engine of the cabinet with the vision of the governor’s mission.

What makes Talabi’s public service remarkable is how seamlessly his private sector discipline has translated into civic leadership. Whether chairing boards, representing Ogun State at strategic forums, or mentoring young professionals, he has brought a blend of humility and confidence that many in public office rarely balance.

At 64, Talabi’s journey offers more than a résumé — it offers perspective. It challenges a narrative that professional success and public accountability occupy different worlds. For him, they have been extensions of the same commitment: to build institutions that work and to lead people who can carry forward that work with excellence.

This birthday is a celebration of legacy in motion — of decades spent mastering his craft and then choosing to place that mastery at the service of his community and state. In a time when leadership often seeks applause, Tokunbo Talabi’s life suggests that real leadership listens, learns, and quietly labors long after the public eye has moved on.

As friends, colleagues, and citizens in Ogun State and beyond celebrate his 64th year, they are celebrating a life that stands as proof that purpose — not position — is the true measure of success.
