The Executive Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni, Jubril Odulate, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue to ensure healthy living and wellbeing of the people and not to compromise with any activity or actions that are capable of endangering the wellbeing of the people.

Ogbeni Odulate, stated this while conducting site inspection at Sotubo area of the local government to ascertain the presence of an alleged, but, unauthorised dumpsite.

He noted that he had received several calls and video evidences from residents complaining about trucks belonging to Lagos Waste Management Authority that were transporting waste from Lagos and dumping same at the location in Sotubo, saying that this had resulted into environmental degradation and created hazards to both residents and road users.

The LG Boss explained that the action was a serious breach of established authority and environmental regulations, stressing that no individual, contractor or organisations reserve the right to establish a waste disposal site without proper government authorisation.

He assured that his administration remained committed to protecting the environment and would continue to take necessary steps to safeguard the interests of the people, adding that Sagamu would not be used as a dumping ground for waste from any other State.

“Our swift intervention was necessary to verify the reports, access the situation and ensure that the health, safety and environmental wellbeing of our people are not compromised,” he said.

Speaking in an interview, members of the community, Mr. Folorunso Awosanya and Mrs. Falilat Adekunle, expressed relief and appreciated the Local Government Chairman for his swift intervention, saying that the operation had generated offensive odour, environmental pollution and health concerns for nearby residents, school children, motorists and road users.
