*A POLITICAL LANDSCAPE IN MOTION*
As Ogun State moves toward the 2027 governorship election, the terrain has shifted decisively around one figure: Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi.” In April 2026, Governor Dapo Abiodun and the APC Strategic Caucus formally unveiled Adeola as the party’s consensus governorship candidate, a decision reached after months of consultation involving President Bola Tinubu, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and other senior party stakeholders. The following month, Adeola went on to win the party’s statewide primary unopposed, polling over 304,000 votes across all 20 local government areas — a process widely described as peaceful and orderly.
Since then, his candidacy has drawn an expanding coalition: former governor Gbenga Daniel publicly endorsed him on national television, traditional rulers including the Alake of Egbaland received him warmly, and groups such as the Egba Lo’kan Agenda and the Ogun West Initiative have rallied behind his bid. Not every APC stakeholder fell in line quietly — former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo resigned from the party over how the consensus process was handled and has since returned to the PDP to back its candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu. Still, the balance of party structure, traditional institutions, and grassroots groups has tilted firmly toward Adeola heading into 2027.
This leave us with the question: Does Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola possess the experience, competence, political network, fiscal discipline, and vision to consolidate the remarkable progress already achieved while opening a new chapter of economic prosperity?
*For many political observers, the available evidence suggests that the answer is yes.*
Yayi’s growing acceptance across the political spectrum is not accidental. It is the product of years of legislative service, grassroots engagement, financial expertise, and an expanding reputation as a leader capable of building consensus. Recent developments within the APC, including his emergence as the party's governorship candidate after broad consultations among party stakeholders, have further strengthened the perception that he is well positioned for the 2027 contest.
*A CASE FOR SENATOR OLAMILEKAN SOLOMON ADEOLA*
*1. Breaking a 50-year imbalance*
Ogun State has 4 major regions, namely Yewa/Awori, Egba, Remo and Ijebu; and since its creation in 1976, the Yewa/Awori region has never produced a democratically elected governor. All the democratically elected governors have come from Egba, Remo and Ijebu regions; with Chief Olusegun Osoba, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun representing Egba region; and Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Prince Dapo Abiodun representing Remo and Ijebu regions. This historical imbalance, apart from leaving Yewa/Awori zone politically underrepresented at the top, has made the zone the most under-developed zone in terms of infrastructure in Ogun State.
Senator Adeola's candidacy represents the most viable opportunity to heal this long-standing geopolitical imbalance. Yayi’s adoption as APC (All Progressives Congress) gubernatorial candidate now strengthens unity across the state’s four regions rather than fuelling further resentment.
*2. A Proven Blueprint of Public Service and Fiscal Mastery*
Ogun State, with its industrial and commercial weight cannot be left to an administrator who needs on-the-job training; it needs an administrator who understands governance from the inside. Senator Adeola brings a robust professional background as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a seasoned tax consultant. His public career is a masterclass in legislative and fiscal governance. Politically, he brings over two decades of legislative experience, having served in Lagos State House of Assembly (two terms), House of Representatives, Senate representing Lagos West, and Senate representing Ogun West.
As a two-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Yayi was instrumental in crafting the legislative framework that revolutionized Lagos's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR); and as a Senator, he broke records as a multi-term senator, establishing deep connections within the federal executive framework that can be leveraged to bring massive federal projects to Ogun State.
With Senator Adeole exposure to budgeting, fiscal policy, infrastructure financing, accountability, and federal-state relations, he possesses a technical understanding of budgeting that could prove invaluable in managing state resources effectively.
*3. Tangible Grassroots Impact and Proven Capacity to Deliver Projects*
Senator Adeola’s political capital is anchored firmly in the grassroots. Through his extensive empowerment programs, he has directly impacted the socio-economic welfare of thousands of market women, youth, and farmers across the state.
His record of constituency development is never in doubt. Through his FECSTEP constituency agenda, Yayi has delivered transformers to over 100 communities, construct roads, dug boreholes, renovated schools, funded micro-businesses, improved health facilities, and initiated scholarship schemes spread across Ogun West, Ogun Central, and Ogun East. His strategy doesn't rely on abstract economic theories; it addresses immediate local needs, making him a deeply relatable figure to the average voter.
Senator Adeola’s constituency development program has demonstrated his ability to translate public office into visible outcomes.
*4. Bridging the Agro-Industrial Gap*
Ogun State boasts massive agricultural potential, particularly across its vast landmass stretching from the capital down through Yewa and the border regions. However, maximizing this requires turning the state from a primary producer into an Agro-processing powerhouse.
With Yayi’s background in finance and private sector development, he is uniquely positioned to attract private investments into processing, streamline the supply chain for local industries, and create a highly enabling environment for commercial manufacturers, smallholders, and tech-driven Agro-allied enterprises alike.
*Conclusion*
The 2027 gubernatorial race will test Ogun State's commitment to equity, progress, and continuous development. Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) offers the perfect blend as he satisfies the just demand for an Ogun West (Yewa/Awori) governorship while bringing a formidable resume of financial management and federal influence. For an Ogun State that seeks to cement its place as Nigeria's premier investment and industrial destination, Yayi is undeniably the right man for the job.

_Note: This is an advocacy piece presenting the case for Senator Adeola’s candidacy. Readers should be aware that his emergence has also drawn opposition — including the resignation of former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo from the APC over the consensus process, and the PDP’s continuing campaign under candidate Oladipupo Adebutu, who dispute the inevitability of Adeola’s candidacy and the depth of some of his constituency achievements._
