In a bid to improve the physical outlooks and condition of the Awolowo market in Sagamu, plans have been concluded for the construction of new modern shops and stalls within the market premises.

The Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Odulate, stated this during an inspection visit to the site where the shops would be situated within the market.

Ogbeni Odulate, noted that the market which had served traders and residents of Sagamu for several years needed to be upgraded, while assuring that affected traders would be provided with temporary space during the period of construction, as some existing shops had to be demolished to give room for a new outlook.

He explained that the Papa/ Ilaro park located within the market place would be used for the construction of open stalls as first phase of the project, saying that the construction was expected to last for 3 months.

“The construction of the modern shops and open stalls was being facilitated by the 2027 Ogun State Gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Adeola Yayi, I have met with the traders to explain the process personally and to identify those whose shops will be affected, the new shops are not for sale and no trader will be chased away.

I am confident that this development will give Awolowo market the new look it deserves, I appeal to our traders to bear with us and embrace the development, the outcome will surely worth it”, he said.

The LG Boss emphasised that names and details of affected traders were being documented, assuring that their concerns would be considered during the implementation of the project.

He acknowledged that the project could result in some inconveniences, appealing to traders to cooperate with the authorities to facilitate the completion of the project.

In her remarks, the Iyaloja, Awolowo market, Chief Mrs. Adenike Osilesi, appreciated the government for the development, pledging the support of traders to achieve the desired objective.
