The Ogun State Government has released a total of N6.75 billion for the payment of gratuity and Additional Pension Benefits to retirees, in further demonstration of the commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to the welfare of retired workers in the State.

Out of the amount, N2,751,665,899.38 was released for the payment of gratuity to 432 beneficiaries, while another N4 billion has been released for the payment of Additional Pension Benefits (APB) to eligible retirees from July 2025 to date.

The Head of Service, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka, who disclosed this, said the latest releases were part of the sustained efforts of the present administration to address pension liabilities and ensure that workers who had served the State meritoriously receive their retirement benefits.

According to him, the administration has continued to give priority to the welfare of pensioners despite competing demands on the State's resources, particularly by progressively addressing outstanding gratuity obligations while strengthening the pension system to make retirement more secure for serving public officers.

Mr. Saka explained that the Additional Pension Benefit was introduced following the full implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme in the State to address concerns over the disparity between benefits obtainable under the old Defined Benefit Scheme and those available under the contributory arrangement.

He noted that the APB provides an additional financial cushion for eligible retirees without diminishing funds accumulated in their Retirement Savings Accounts, thereby providing greater financial security for workers as they exit the service.

The Head of Service described the release of the funds as another significant step in the government's ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of senior citizens who had devoted their productive years to the service of Ogun State.

He assured retirees that the government remained mindful of the challenges associated with outstanding pension and gratuity obligations and would continue to address them in a systematic and sustainable manner within available resources.

Mr.Saka also reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun to building a pension system in which workers could look forward to retirement with greater confidence and dignity.

He urged serving public officers to take advantage of the reforms in the pension system by ensuring that their records and documentation were up to date, while assuring retirees and other stakeholders of continued transparency and engagement in the administration of retirement benefits in the State.
