As the 2027 general elections draw closer, political activities and mobilisation efforts are gathering momentum across Ogun State. Among the support groups positioning themselves ahead of the elections is the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), which has continued to expand its presence and membership across the state.

According to information published on the movement’s website, YPM has recorded more than 40,000 online membership registrations across Ogun State. The figure, with solid verification would place the movement as a leading political support groups currently operating in the state.

The colourful inauguration of the movement, held on Sunday, May 3, at the Ake Palace, Abeokuta, attracted significant attention and was described by its organisers as an important milestone in its political mobilisation efforts.

Within a few weeks of the inauguration, the movement reportedly presented 27 brand-new campaign buses to its principal, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi. The gesture was presented as part of efforts to support the movement’s mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

The movement successfully demonstrated plans for a 10,000-person solidarity trek in support of Senator Solomon Adeola, alongside other programmes and mobilisation activities outlined by its Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, in statements issued to the media recently.

Speaking of the evolution and objectives of the movement, Akintunde earlier said, “the group's formation represents another significant milestone in the evolving history of political movements in Ogun State. 

"The Yayi Progressives Movement has come a long way, emerging from DACA, through Omoluabi, and now standing strong in its current form. This journey is a testament to our unity and determination to mobilise the people of Ogun State toward the realisation of our party’s goals, particularly in securing decisive electoral victories for all our candidates across the state.”

The activities of YPM have increasingly drawn attention to its grassroots mobilisation strategy. The movement has developed structures across Ogun State’s 20 local government areas with the aim of coordinating supporters, encouraging political participation and strengthening its organisational presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Beyond electoral mobilisation, the movement with its agenda includes leadership development, community engagement and the promotion of people-oriented governance. It also maintains that its long-term objectives include nurturing a new generation of leaders committed to transparency, accountability and sustainable development.

For its supporters, Yayi Progressives Movement represents resilience, strategic organisation and a growing grassroots political network. Its ability to translate its reported membership strength and organisational structures into sustained political engagement will, however, become clearer as the 2027 election cycle gathers pace.

With political activities already intensifying across Ogun State, YPM appears determined to establish itself as a significant force in the state’s emerging electoral landscape.
