OGSG Inaugurates new Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Tasks Members on Selfless Service

The Ogun State Government has inaugurated a reconstituted Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council (AIAC), charging members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, impartiality and selfless commitment.

The inauguration, which  took place at the Awujale Palace in Ijebu-Ode, followed the resignation of some members of the previously inaugurated council.

Speaking during the inauguration,  Governor Abiodun,  said the selection of the five-member council was carefully considered, describing their appointment as a call to service at a critical period in the history of Ijebuland.

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Governor urged the members to place the collective interest of the people above personal considerations, stressing the need for wisdom, dialogue and unity in the discharge of their responsibilities.

"Your selection is a call to service at a defining moment. You have been entrusted with a responsibility that demands wisdom above personal interest, dialogue above division and the common good above every other consideration," the Governor said.

Abiodun, explained that the council was established to provide lawful, orderly and accountable leadership during the interregnum.

He said its responsibilities included overseeing the administrative and traditional affairs of the Awujale Palace and Ijebuland, while facilitating a peaceful, credible and seamless process towards the selection and eventual coronation of a new Awujale.

The Governor clarified that the council was not constituted to usurp the authority of the traditional stool, or  interfere with the customary rights of the ruling houses or politicise the succession process, but rather, its mandate was to preserve stability, uphold the dignity of the palace, ensure continuity in legitimate traditional administration and provide an atmosphere conducive to a peaceful succession process.

Abiodun, thereafter charged the members to discharge their duties diligently, without fear or favour, and ensure that their decisions were guided by fairness, accountability and the overall interest of Ijebuland.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman AIAC, Chief Rasheed Adesanya,  appreciated the Governor for the privilege and Honour bestowed on the newly inaugurated council to serve Ijebuland, assuring him of fulfilling the task of delivering a new Awujale

The newly reconstituted council comprises Chief Rasheed Adesanya (Olisa) as Chairman; Prof. Jide Ajayi (Jagun Aso); Chief Stephen Bakare (Babalaje); Chief Alade Shote (Otun Balogun); and Chief Chris Okunowo (Bobagunwa) as Secretary.
