LAW OFFICERS CHARGED ON DISCIPLINE TO ENHANCE PROFESSIONALISM

 


          Law Officers in Ogun State Public Service have been charged to inculcate the act of discipline, integrity and self-development, so as to excel in their profession despite any challenges.


          The State Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye disclosed this in a lecture organised by Law Officers' Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, in conjunction with Ministry of Justice as part of activities marking Law Officers' Week held at Obas' Complex Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, with the theme, “Taking the lead in administration of justice: A public service perspective”.


          Mr. Dahunsi, noted that discipline, integrity and self-development are major keys to succeed not only in the administration of justice, but also a global desire, urging them to utilise relevant knowledge that would upgrade their professional skills, such as the Information Communication Technology (ICT).


          He enjoined Law Officers to have undiluted courage, shun nepotism, favouritism and other forms of injustice, advising them to handle situation maturely and desist from being emotional in the course of their duties.


          He appreciated the present administration in the State for recruiting more personnel, admonishing them to participate fully in governments' activities and policy, most especially the ISEYA mantra.


          In his speech, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Adeyemi Adewole pointed out that the roles of Law Officers are vital, as they performed enormous responsibilities which have positive effects on other agencies of government, urging them to set developmental goals along with the vision of government.


          The Solicitor-General admonished them to handle cases with maturity, wisdom and also imbibe meaningful communication skills with courage in the discharge of their duties to the public.


          The second resource person, Mr. Olayode Delano SAN, said before Officers could take lead they must have evidences, while highlighting parts of the attributes of Law Officers which includes, timeliness, case strategy, as well as file orderliness.


          Delano, stressed further that law Officers must be observant and be abreast of happenings in the society, charging them not to limit themselves in their specialised area but also have basic knowledge in other fields so as to become better Law Officers.


          In her welcome address, the Chairman, Law Officers Association, Ogun State Chapter, Mrs. Oluwakemi Dankuwo, appreciated the State government for its unflinching support, while advising participants to put into practice what they learnt from the resource persons for self-development.


          In his remarks, the Director, Civil Litigation and Advisory Services, Mr. Oluwashina Akinside said learning is a continuous process as it is imperative to counter future challenges.
