On Sunday, 10th August, 2025, the 2025 Akesan Day Planning Committee, led by Chairman Otunba Wale ABDUL (MBA, FCA, ACIB), paid a courtesy visit to the Iperu Regency Council at Alaperu Palace. The visit aimed to foster collaboration, seek royal guidance, and secure blessings for a successful celebration.
Otunba ABDUL emphasized that Akesan Day is a communal event, celebrating the rich socio-cultural heritage and uniting all sons and daughters of Iperu Akesanland, transcending religious and political divides. He underscored the committee’s commitment to organizing an inclusive celebration that all stakeholders can take pride in.
To align efforts, the committee presented its proposed programmes for the events slated to hold from Wednesday, 26th November, to Sunday, 30th November, 2025, with the grand finale holding on Saturday, 29th November, 2025.
High Chief Rotimi ODUTONA, Lisa of Iperu and head of the Regency Council, commended the committee’s initiative and urged them to ensure the event remains a unifying, non-political celebration. He recommended using a single ankara fabric and a central venue to promote unity and avoid duplication of efforts.
Supporting this stance, High Chief Barr. Ifasola Saheed OPEODU, Oluwo of Iperu, offered prayers for the committee’s success. High Chief Rasaq OSHO, Apena of Iperu, in his.bried remark, suggested the inclusion of members of the Alaperu-in-Council in the planning process to ensure seamless participation and the performance of necessary traditional rites for a hitch-free event. High Chief Kunle ADEKOYA, Odi of Iperu, was also in attendance.
Responding, Otunba ABDUL expressed gratitude for the council’s insights and assured the committee’s commitment to addressing their recommendations.
The committee also visited prominent royal fathers, including His Royal Highness Oba Kayode OLAYEBO OREMULE-SODA (Gbadewolu I), Onimeji of Imeji; His Royal Highness Oba Isiaka OGUNNAIKE (Odumowu I); Alagbehinsha of Agbehinsha; and His Royal Highness Oba Abraham Adedoyin OGUNFOWORA (Ewu Nla, Orija J'ogun I), Alaregun of Iregun. Each offered valuable advice, suggestions, and prayers for a successful celebration.
Members of the committee - Omoba Taiwo RAJI (Treasurer); Prince Musa ELEPE (Clubs Liaison Officer); Princess Bunmi ODUNSI, (Social Welfare/Entertainment Officer); Comrade Ganiyu AHMED (Youths Liaison Officer); and Otunba Adebayo SALAMI (Technical Officer); accompanied the chairman on the visit.
As preparations continue, the committee plans to further engage royal fathers, including Alayeluwa Oba Engr. Lukman Oluwadamilare Adebambo SALAMI (Olumogun Adimula Sebu II), Ebi of Idena; and Alayeluwa, Oba Sir Olugbenga SHOMADE (Igundaniyan III), Akufon of Idarika, and other key stakeholders. These efforts aim to deliver a well-coordinated 2025 Akesan Day that unites Iperu indigenes both at home and in the diaspora, fostering a stronger and more united Iperu Akesanland
