The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi has disclosed that the current renovation of the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex by Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration is an initiative that will help to increase and improve the economy as well as Internally Generated Revenue of the State.
Hon. Fagbayi made this disclosure while fielding questions from journalists at his office in Oke-Mosan, over the newly renovated and commissioned Olumo Rock Tourist Complex in Abeokuta, said the administration was working to ensure that the tourism sector was elevated to a valued position among comity of tourists’ sites across the country.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Present government had expended lots of funds in the redesigning of the tourist site, making it a world class tourist destination, with an international standard art gallery and partnering with the Nike Art gallery which help to attract more traffic, adding that the government was aiming to add value and dependability to the sector through the establishment of a standard art gallery and museum at the old Governor's office in Oke-Ilewo which would also boost the IGR for the Ministry.
Fagbayi explained further that after the lapse of the two months free entry into the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex as stated by the Governor during the re-commissioning , the Ministry would go into partnership with professionals in that sector to handle the operations of the place in order to ensure efficiency and maintain highest standards, noting that several private investors had signified interest to invest in the sector.
”I want to commend our promise keeping Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for keeping to his words to renovate and give facelifts to tourist sites across the State starting with the Olumo Rock renovation and making it to be world standard tourist site. This will bring a lot of economic prosperity to the State. “Before the closure in April, we had about a hundred thousand tourists who visited, but with this new renovations, our projection is between 200,000 to 300,000 thousand tourists in a year, which will positively increase the income of the sector and economy of those around the area.
“We are looking into partnering with some of the professional investors who have shown interest in some other tourist sites across the State, topmost of which is the Bilikisu Sugbo shrine which we intend to put in place before the end of this administration, not leaving out some other low hanging tourist sites among the 41 we have in the State, as some just needed repairs of their linkage roads, which our Ministry has made contacts with the Ministry of Works," Fagbayi disclosed.
