Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, Oba Awokoya-Yesufu Installs Chief (Mrs) Ogoji as New Iyalode of Irete-Ijebu Kingdom.

 


In a colorful and culturally rich ceremony, the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, Oba Dr. Abdulganiu Awokoya-Yesufu, has formally installed Chief (Mrs) Idayat Temitope Ogoji as the new Iyalode of Irete-Ijebu Kingdom.



The event, which drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, and well-wishers from across the region, was held at the palace grounds in Irete-Ijebu and marked a significant moment in the kingdom’s history. 



The installation of the Iyalode — the highest-ranking female chieftaincy title in Yoruba traditional society — symbolizes the important role of women in culture, and community development.


In his remarks, Oba Awokoya-Yesufu praised Chief (Mrs) Ogoji’s unwavering commitment to the community, describing her as a woman of integrity, influence, and compassion. 



Kabiyesi noted that her new role as Iyalode would further strengthen the leadership structure of the kingdom and enhance women’s participation in communal affairs.


"The title of Iyalode is not just honorary; it carries deep responsibilities adding that Chief (Mrs) Ogoji has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and a passion for the progress of Irete-Ijebu. 


Her elevation today is a recognition of her contributions and the trust our people have in her ability to serve." The monarch said.



In her acceptance speech, Chief (Mrs) Ogoji expressed gratitude to the monarch and the entire community for the honor bestowed upon her.



She pledged to uphold the values and traditions of the title, while also championing development initiatives, especially those that empower women and youth.


"I am deeply humbled by this recognition. I see this not just as a title, but as a call to service. I will do my best to support our Kabiyesi and work for the continued growth and unity of Irete-Ijebu." She said.
