As part of its relentless effect at protecting the environment, the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), has sealed 4 Industries for not installing an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) in their facility.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), who doubles as the Chairman of the State's Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, while speaking with Journalists, after the enforcement in Abeokuta, said that Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) was a facility designed to treat and purify waste water before been discharged into the water body.
The Industries affected were, New Era Packaging Limited, Nifong Material Company Limited, Xinfeng Renewable Resources Limited and Prorich Products Nigeria Limited, located along Abeokuta-Sagamu Express way, Isheri in Ifo Local Government Area, Lagos-Ibadan and Express way respectively.
He said industries needed ETP to treat and manage waste water generated from their operation, which if not treated could pose health risk to human and wildlife.
"Untreated waste water can harm humans and aquatic life, contaminate water source and damage ecosystem, ETP help remove pollutant and toxic, ensuring a safer environment," he said.
The OGEPA Boss further disclosed that the Industries sealed, also flouted other offences which included, violation of stop work order and air pollution.
