Ogun Community Cries Out Over Relocation Of Aseese Ongoing Pedestrian Bridge




The Residents of Aseese community under Obafemi-Owode Local Government,  Ogun State have cried out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi over their decision to relocate the pedestrian bridge along Lagos Ibadan Expressway which is under construction in the community.




Aseese community comprises  of the Baale, the league of Imams, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Iyaloja, Babaloja, the Hausa Community, the Ndi Igbo Community, the youth, the disable people and the senior citizens of Nigeria.




It was gathered that the Federal Ministry of Works has decided to stop the ongoing pedestrian bridge project and relocated it to another community.




The residents in their large number on Friday embarked on a peaceful protest in front of the ongoing pedestrian project, appealing to the Federal Government to revert its decision.





The Iyaloja of Aseese community who is also the Iyaloja general of Obafemi Owode, Local Government,  Alhaja Ganiyat while speaking with newsmen said that many people have lost their lives in the past because of no pedestrian bridge.




She also disclosed that her only son was crushed to death by an unknown car on the same road, calling on the first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to come to their aid and intervene in the matter.




Alhaja Ganiyat said that they were full of joy when the federal ministry of works started the project but they became unhappy when they got the information that the Federal Government announced the relocation of  the pedestrian bridge project.




She said that the Federal Government should complete the project for the sake of peace, saying that they are not ready to lose the opportunity.




She said" We are not happy, we are sad because the Federal Government has failed us with their decision to relocate the pedestrian bridge which is under construction in Aseese community. When the construction of the bridge started, we were all  full of Joy that good things is coming to our community but when we got the sad news that the project would be relocated, we became said, our people in this community are not happy at all because we played a significant role in ensuring the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023. Many people have died on this road because of no pedestrian bridge,  my only son was also crushed to death by an unknown car on this road,  we really need this bridge, we can not afford to lose the opportunity, we are calling on the federal government, we are urging them to stop its decision to relocate the pedestrian bridge. I am begging  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Works, Senator Engr David Umahi and the first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to intervene in this matter as to stop the relocation plan.



"We dont want this bridge to be relocated, because we dont want us to continue losing our people. A woman lost her three chidren on this road, many  people like that we don't even know on this road but if this bridge is completed , there will be no accident on the road like this. 




She also appealed to the Minister of Works and Housing to intervene in the matter and revert his decision to relocate the pedestrian bridge project



"We hereby appeal to you to use your good office to revert the decision of relocating the ongoing pedestrian bridge back to Aseese, the community strongly opposes such decision, the safety and well-being of residence settling in this large populated community is more paramount" she concluded.







Alhaja Ganiyat therefore commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his landmark achievements since he assumed office in 2023, describing him as an outstanding President







"We hereby appeal to you to use your good office to revert the decision of relocating the ongoing pedestrian bridge back to Aseese, the community strongly opposes such decision, the safety and well-being of residence settling in this large populated community is more paramount"




Also the Baale of Aseese community, Chief  Jamiu Sonola also appealed to the Federal Government not to relocate the project, saying that the people are in need of it.




The area CDC Chairman, Aseese  Eng. Lawrence Oyelakin also added that the community will not be in peace if the relocation works across Aseese Bus Stop along Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
