The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has called on the State Government to take immediate action on security concerns raised during plenary, just as he appealed for the enforcement of existing laws and earlier resolutions passed by the Assembly to safeguard residents and citizens of the State.
He further urged the State Governor to urgently implement the security recommendations reached at the South-West Governors’ Meeting in Ibadan alongside that of the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting in Iperu on November 26.
The call followed the presentation of a member representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, who reported some security concerns in some parts of Ogun West arising from the influx of herders and ongoing open grazing activities in his constituency, Oja Odan, Ilaro and adjoining communities under explanation during the plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Hon. Adeyanju stressed the need to be proactive in tackling security threats occasioned by the influx of foreign herders in the border communities in the senatorial district.
The Speaker also instructed the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Damilola Soneye, to convene a meeting with the Surveyor-General and other stakeholders on the need to address the issue of alleged land takeover by military personnel in Ijebu North- East as reported by a member representing the constituency, Hon. Oluseun Adesanya.
Hon. Adesanya had earlier raised concerns over rising tension in Itele caused by the Nigerian Army, which had reportedly fenced off between 20 and 25 villages; reporting that the development had triggered fears of displacement, apprehension and potential conflict amongst residents.
In another development, Assembly has commiserated with Hon. Adebisi Ayodele and the people of Ipokia Local Government over the death of a late political leader, Chief Musbau Ayinde Obanla, who was a former Chairman of the Local Government and until his passing, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council and was on the Board of the Governing Council of the Tai Solarin University of Education.
