In preparation for the forthcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, Ogun State Government has begun a training-of-trainers programme for healthcare workers, aimed at enhancing technical capacity and ensuring the effective implementation of the exercise across all local government areas of the State.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training exercise, Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, said the initiative was in line with the health agenda of the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who prioritised preventive healthcare and improved access to quality health services for residents.
Dr. Ogunsola, explained that the training was designed to equip participants with the requisite technical knowledge and skills required for the successful implementation of the MR vaccination campaign at all levels of healthcare delivery, noting that the State government remained committed to ensure that no child is left behind in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.
He charged the trainees to make judicious use of the opportunity, stressing that the effectiveness of the campaign would largely depend on their dedication and capacity to transfer the acquired knowledge to other health workers across the State.
“The success of this training goes beyond this hall. You are expected to cascade the skills and knowledge to other healthcare professionals so that the Measles Rubella vaccination campaign will be successfully implemented not only in Ogun State, but also contribute to national health outcomes,” he said.
Also speaking, State Coordinator of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Mr. Solape Folarin, highlighted the sustained efforts of the Federal Government towards eradicating vaccine-preventable diseases in the country.
He noted that the training formed part of a broader national strategy to strengthen immunisation systems and ensure uniform standards in the implementation of vaccination campaigns across states. According to him, Measles and Rubella remained a significant public health concern, making capacity-building for frontline health workers imperative.
In her response on behalf of the trainees, Dr. Surajudeen Olayinka expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for organising what she described as a timely and impactful training.
Dr. Olayinka assured the organisers that participants would effectively cascade the knowledge and skills acquired to the grassroots level, noting that this would enhance the smooth and effective implementation of the Measles Rubella vaccination campaign across communities.
