Ogun State House of Assembly today held its 2026 Ramadan Lecture with a challenge to Muslims to always remain pious by continually refecting on their deeds, as every living soul will account for his deeds in the hereafter.
Delivering the lecture with the theme: “Reality of Death and Accountability,” at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Guest Speaker, Fadeelatus-Shaykh Dr. Sharafud-deen Gbadebo Raji, Director of Al Madeenah Centre, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, described death as inevitable and stressed that true preparation lies in nurturing the soul through obedience to Allah rather than excessive care for mundane things.
He called on Muslims to live a purposeful and accountable live; positing that accountability in the day of judgement would require strict adherence to the pillars of Islam including one's resolve in the oneness of Allah, observance of the five daily prayers, payment of Zakat, fasting during Ramadan, holy pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, and righteous living in line with Islamic teachings.
He stressed the need for Muslims to always be cautious of their deeds and actions, guide their tongue, and abide by the teaching of the holy Qur'an as handed down by the almighty Allah.
In her goodwill message, the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Khadijat Okusanya Ahmed, described Ramadan as a sacred period of devotion, reflection, compassion, unity and renewed commitment to Allah and humanity.
She noted that faith-based gatherings like the one organised by Assembly Muslim Community would help strengthen moral values, promote peace and social harmony; while praying that the lessons from the lecture would guide actions of the Muslim Community toward building a more just and prosperous society.
In his welcome address, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, represented by the Majority Leader Yusuf Sherif , described the theme as timely and reminded public office holders of the certainty of divine judgment and the need for integrity, justice and selfless service.
He commended the House of Assembly Muslim Community for sustaining the annual Ramadan Lecture, noting that it served as a moral compass that reinforced accountability to God and to the people.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service, Alhaji Sakiru Adebakin, emphasized the need to continously promote the harmony between faith and governance; stating that patient over anger, humility over disrespect, coupled with punctuality, leadership by example, inculcation of moral values and obedience would help promote peaceful co-existence that would always aid developments.
On his part, the Chairman of the Ramadan Lecture Planning Committee, Hon. Lawal Samusideen Adekunle, urged the congregation to uphold the virtues of Ramadan beyond the fasting period for the continued progress of the State and the nation.
