The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has met with leaders and volunteers of the City Boys Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda held the meeting with the group on Saturday as the ruling party and its support structures intensify efforts to consolidate grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.
The meeting brought together the APC national chairman and members of the movement, which has emerged as one of the support groups working to promote Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Bashir Ahmad, Deputy Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response for the City Boys Movement, disclosed the development in a post on his verified X account.
According to Ahmad, Yilwatda interacted with the leadership and volunteers of the movement during the visit.
He said the APC chairman commended the group for its activities and urged its members to maintain the momentum as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
“We were honoured to receive the APC National Chairman at the City Boys Movement Headquarters,” Ahmad stated.
He added that the APC chairman recognised the commitment of the movement and encouraged its members to continue their work across the country.
For the City Boys Movement, much of its activities have centred on youth mobilisation, grassroots engagement and the promotion of the Tinubu administration.
The movement has also attracted prominent young businessmen, political actors and public figures into its ranks.
Its activities have increasingly placed it within the wider political structure supporting Tinubu as he seeks a second term.
The City Boys Movement was established as a political support platform for Tinubu and has continued to position itself as a major vehicle for youth mobilisation.
The group has repeatedly stated that it wants to take its message to communities and voters across Nigeria.
Its members have also been involved in various empowerment and mobilisation activities in different states.
In a related development, Vice President Kashim Shettima had earlier received the leadership of the City Boy Movement at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on June 11 the year, during a courtesy visit by the group.
The meeting provided another high-level platform for the movement to present its plans and reaffirm its support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Shettima used the occasion to speak about the Tinubu administration’s relationship with young Nigerians and the role of youth groups in the country’s political development.
The Vice President described Tinubu as a leader with a strong connection to modern ideas and said the administration remained committed to policies aimed at addressing the challenges facing young people.
“Our eponymous City Boy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a man ahead of his time, a man of progressive conviction who summons modern ideas to meet the problems of our twenty-first century,” Shettima said on June 11.
He also used the meeting to urge members of the movement to remain disciplined and united.
According to him, political organisations can only remain effective when their members maintain trust and work toward a common objective.
“Movements grow by discipline. They survive by trust. They mature by consultation. They endure by loyalty to a common mission larger than any personal ambition,” the Vice President said.
The comment by Shettima came as the City Boy Movement was expanding its activities ahead of the 2027 election.
During the visit, the Director-General of the movement, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, praised the Tinubu administration and expressed the group’s determination to mobilise support for the President.
Shoga said members of the movement would take their campaign to different parts of Nigeria.
He maintained that the organisation was created to support the administration’s programmes, explain its policies to Nigerians and mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The Director-General also pointed to the group’s expanding national structure.
He said the movement had representatives across the states of the federation and was working to strengthen its presence at the grassroots.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, was also present during the meeting with Shettima.
Olawande commended the Vice President for what he described as his support for young Nigerians.
