BOUNDARY DISPUTES: OGUN SPEAKER CHALLENGES POLICE ON SECURITY, PROPOSES ESTABLISHMENT OF STATE BOUNDARY COMMISSION

 


The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide has challenged the State Command of the Nigeria Police to immediately deploy its personnel to some border communities in Odeda Local Government Area sharing boundary between the State and Oyo State to protect the residents from illegal invasion from the neighbouring State.


The Speaker who also proposed the establishment of the State Boundary Commission, noted that similar challenges were often being experienced by boundary and border communities in all parts of the State.


Elemide gave the charge during a stakeholders meeting comprising the representative from the State Boundary Committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Alhaja Noimot Salako- Oyedele, represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Boundary Matters to the Governor, ( Office of the Deputy Governor) Alhaja Khadijah Ahmed, representative of the Nigeria Police, CSP Stephen Ujar, Ministry of Justice represented by the Director of Legislative Drafting, Barr. James Mafe, Acting Surveyor General for the State, Mr. Oladele Ewulo and the representatives of the boundary communities as well as the officials from Odeda Local Government Council at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.


He called on the police to intensify efforts in protecting the people, especially the residents of the boundary communities, recalling that similar meetings had been held in the past with the Deputy Speaker of Oyo State and his team to address the issue, commending the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Boundary Committee led by the Deputy Governor for their efforts in ensuring that the State is free of any form of boundary issues.


He called on the affected communities to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses as Government had already stepped in to address the issues.
